Birds Becoming a Problem

Event Start Date: 2019/09/06

2019/09/06

Yet again, “Flipper”, Remora and birds have been a constant problem. The water quality has been good but hot temperatures. Tons of small Hardtails, Goggle eyes and Alewives have been present all week. Larger Hardtails, yellow tail Jacks and Ladyfish have been in abundance. Kings have been almost extinct and no Sailfish came through. At least there have been some Spanish Mackerel with a few small Bonita very early mornings and at sunset. The shallows have had Red Drum mostly after Sunset.

Gotchas and Bubble rigs have been the “go to” when the Spanish schools have appeared. A few catch limits have been possible if you were there at the right time. Brenda was able to be there one of those times and limited out quickly.

Skinny water was mixed with pockets of algae but for the most part clean. Live Pin fish on a Carolina rig or fresh live Sand Fleas seemed to get the Reds active. The bite was late after Sun set and in the dark. Bob, J.T., Dan and Robert all got a slot one evening.

Species caught: Spanish Mackerel, Red Drum, Ladyfish and Blue Runners. Bait: small Alewives, small Goggle eyes and Hardtails with a few baby Bonita in the mix.

Water temperature: 87
