More Kings

Event Start Date: 2022/11/04

2022/11/04

We enjoyed clean water all week with the water temperature hovering between 72 and 74 degrees. Alewives and small Hardtails with a few Cigar Minnows were the available live bait. Kings, Spanish, Red Drum, Black Drum, Flounder and Pompano were caught with Sunday topping the week as the hottest bite.

King Mackerel were decked again this week but not as many as the previous week. Sunday was the best daily catch with several fish in the twenty-pound class. Both locals and visiting anglers got in on the fun. Locals, Hachid, Mikel and Cheryl decked fish along with Von from Georgia, David from Kentucky, and Filip from Georgia. Several other Kings were caught along with more that didn’t make it onto the gaff. Natural bait was the preferred bait, but a few were hooked on lures. Here are 6 of the Kings that Hachid, Cheryl, Von, David, Mikel and Filip caught:

Spanish Mackerel were not as thick this week, but good catches came to those who worked for them. Most were caught on bubble rigs but the biggest was caught on an Alewife. Jennifer, from South Dakota was floating an Alewife under a bubble when this “axe handle” hit. It was 26 inches. (see: Jennifer-313021911)

Schools of big Black Drum came through several times during the week. Most passed by without biting but a couple were decked in the 15# plus range. A few Red Drum were prowling near the pier. Rusty, from Texas decked a 41-inch Bull on a spoon Sunday afternoon. After a quick photo, it was released.

Other action included several Flounder and Pompano. All the Flounder had to be released as the season is closed until Dec. 01, 2022. Several of the Pompano were legal size.

Don’t forget we end daylight savings time Saturday night so get ready for sunsets before 5:00pm.
