The new floor panels came as promised and the maintenance crew began installing them Monday morning. The Tee will be closed as work is being done but will reopen each day as the crew finishes for the day. Progress began slower than they hoped as the panels were slightly overwidth and are having to be individually cut to fit the slot. The work will continue until all the panels are installed. A big thanks to all the Recreation Department Staff as they work to complete this much needed maintenance.
We had clear water for a long time but this week the algae has turned it green. “June grass” is a normal occurrence but is very annoying as it collects on your line and tackle. The water temperature continues to be very warm at 85 degrees. We finally have lots of bait with Alevives all around the pier and even some Cigar minnows. The Tarpon bite continues but fewer fish are coming through. King catches were tough and Spanish were few. Red Drum are still in the shallows but not many have been caught.
To my knowledge, Carlos was the only angler to deck a King until today. Carlos got his fish Sunday afternoon. Today, two ting Kings were caught by Jose and Hachid. Both ate lures. It was a perfect afternoon for the bite to be hot but it just didn’t happen.
The only other action was a few Ladyfish and Hardtails. Remora and Pelicans are thick and a constant pest along with “Flipper”..
