Red Tide status: Red tide was found in low to medium concentrations in six water samples taken from Gulf County last week.
Red Tide is an organism that in large enough concentrations releases a neurotoxin that can kill fish and even affect humans with eye, nose and throat irritation.
Several observations of fish kills suspected to be related to red tide have been reported in St. Joseph Bay and Respiratory Irritation suspected to be related to red tide was also reported.
The samples were taken on October 20th and 22nd.
The positive red tide samples were found in waters around the St. Joseph Peninsula State Park, Pig Island and The George Tapper Bridge. (see: 5-859306149)
