The 2024 BCO King Mackerel Tournament is in the books. The leaderboard did not change. Chung K. remained as first place with his 26-pound 12-ounce King and Rowel Z. remained as second place with his 26-pound 6-ounce King. Chung not only had the winning fish, but he also qualified the most Kings. He also had the third largest fish with a 25-pound 12 ounce fish he caught on the 15th. Congratulations to the winners. We thank Bay County Parks and Recreation and our sponsors Rapala and 3RD Coast Lures for their support! Here are shots of the 1st and 2nd place prizes:

The tournament ended at 6:00p.m. Sunday, the 17th. The final week brought several Kings onto the deck. A couple were close contenders but fell just shy of the winning weight. Chung’s 25-pound 12-ounce fish and a 24.4-pound King caught by Hachid N. on the 18th. Geo got one on the 16th, George got one the 17th. The 18th was challenging as the tax man, “Flipper” was eating our fish and bait. George only decked the head of his King, and I got in only the torso of mine. Lures were outperforming natural bait the last week.
Sunday, I got to meet a very young fisherman named Waylon. He is 2 years old and was casting his reel and retrieving his fish alone. He was quite proficient. He captured quite an audience during his day on the pier. Not only was he landing his own fish, but he helped Rowel load Mullet into the cooler from the cast net. He will be quite a fisherman soon.
Other activity included a large Spanish Mackerel George caught on the 18th, a “Big Ugly” Black Drum Allen caught on the 16th , and a Bonita Jack caught on the 18th. Check the daily activity for other catches during this report period.
